The Epilepsy Foundation realizes that epilepsy affects the entire family, not just the person with seizures. As a parent of a child with epilepsy, you are faced with many challenges; medical issues, educational issues, family dynamics and feeling alone.
You are not alone. The Epilepsy Foundation is here for you, with many helpful resources to guide you through life with a family member who has a seizure disorder. Numerous brochures are available covering a variety of family related issues, including daycare, communicating with siblings about their brother or sister's seizures, coping with financial issues and detailed info on the various types of seizures and treatments.
Support can also be found by dealing with others who are facing the same challenges. This support can be found in the e-communities and the pediatric support group at Children's Healthcare (info is found under the Support Groups tab of this website) Other resources include the Epilepsy and My Child website and through the wonderful special needs database developed by Parent to Parent of Georgia (www.p2pga.org)
Studies have shown that the way parents feel about epilepsy has a major effect on how their child deals the disorder. We will provide you with the tools necessary to be a positive influence on your child's self-esteem and heighten their coping skills with their disorder.
