National Epilepsy Walk Raises Awareness and Funds

The National Mall in Washington, DC was packed on March 27 with thousands of people on an important mission. They were not there to protest, or for that matter or to take part in the National Cherry Blossom Festival, although many wore purple and pink colored outfits. These marchers were there to create greater awareness of Epilepsy and to raise funds for quality of life programs for people with seizure disorders at the National Epilepsy Walk.

The state of Georgia was well represented at the event, as more than 40 walkers from the Peach State made the trip to the Nation's Capitol. They were there to honor persons in their families who have epilepsy, remember those who passed due to complications from epilepsy, and to make a statement that even if they have epilepsy, it will not prevent them from leading a successful life.

Atlanta Falcon running back and Epilepsy spokesperson Jason Snelling led the contingent, as he fired up the walkers at a pre-event rally. The walkers then took off on a 2.5. walk around the National Mall in an event that was fun, inspiring and memorable for its' participants.

We want to thank the following Georgia-based teams for joining us in D.C. for this important day: Team Snelling/ Leadbetter, Team Bub's Loves, Team Diane, Team Georgia on Our Minds, Team Ryan, Team Nathan, The Christie Crew and Team Krise. In addition, we want to thank the hundreds of persons who donated funds to the Epilepsy Foundation in honor, memory or in sponsorship of the various walkers. At the end of the day, more than $22,000 was raised by the Georgia-affiliated teams to benefit the quality of life programs of the Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia.
