Thirteen year old Christopher Carswell and his service dog Bronx were recently named winners of the Purple Pride Photo Contest, a national competition organized by Team Epilepsy, the largest epilepsy community on Facebook. The Brunswick resident's photo (below, right) depicted the close bond between an epilepsy patient and their service animal during a recent visit to the hospital.
The winning entry earned Chris $500 for himself and $3,000 for the Georgia affiliate, after receiving the most votes nationwide from the Team Epilepsy community. He was honored by Team Epilepsy and the Georgia affiliate in ceremonies at his favorite restaurant, Golden Corral in Brunswick. Golden Corral has always welcomed persons and their service dogs without question.
The Purple Pride contest is just one of many ways Chris and his mom Janet are creating more awareness about epilepsy in their community. Chris recently was recognized by WTOC-TV as one of its' Hometown Heroes for his efforts. He also started his own website www.1Boy4Change.org to encourage other young children with epilepsy to push forward and make a difference in their community.
Team Epilepsy recently surpassed the 90,000 member mark on Facebook. It has grown at a staggering rate, helping to connect its members with support groups and outside resources while giving them a place to share opinions and advice with others dealing with epilepsy in an easily accessible and welcoming environment. We encourage everyone to visit, and join, the Team Epilepsy Facebook community.
We appreciate all that Chris, his mom, Bronx and Team Epilepsy are doing to educate and inform the community about seizure disorders.
