SUMMER CAMP Swimming, arts and crafts, campfires, seeing old friends and making new friends. These are memories of summer camp that we all treasure… and it is no different for a child or an adult with a seizure disorder. The Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia works with two area camps, Camp Big Heart and Camp Lakewood, to ensure that people with epilepsy do not miss out on this opportunity. These camps provide as regular a camp experience as possible with the added security of having all camp counselors trained in seizure recognition/first aid and having fulltime medical staff on site to dispense medications and handle seizure emergencies. In addition to the fun activities, camp plays a major role in increasing the camper’s self esteem and sense of independence. These camps also make the campers realize that they are not alone in having epilepsy. Camp also allows parents a week of repsite from the rigors of raising a special needs child. Thanks to the generosity of the organizations on the right, we are able to provide financial aid (camperships) to allow those with financial difficulties to attend camp. We also welcome individual contributions earmarked for this purpose. You can do this by going to our Donate page and click on the Camp tab. OUR CAMP DATES FOR 2008 ARE: NOTE: Both sessions of Camp Big Heart are now full. We cannot accept further applications for this camp. Space is still available at Camp Lakewood.
